Does your AI packing list cover a carry-on that gets checked at the gate?
You pack the portable phone charger in your carry-on, then reach the gate and get told the bag has to go in the hold. A packing list that only says “charger: packed” has stopped helping at the moment you need it. The FAA’s existing PackSafe guidance says spare lithium batteries, including power banks, belong in carry-on baggage only. If that bag is checked at the gate or beside the plane, remove them and keep them with you in the cabin. Protect them from damage and short circuits. Airlines can have stricter limits, so check your carrier’s rules before leaving. This is existing US guidance, not a new AI rule or a packing assistant I have tested. I would ask an AI travel assistant for a short “if they check this bag” note, using the airline’s current guidance rather than its own remembered answer. Put the power bank somewhere you can reach without emptying the suitcase in a boarding queue. Keep the note with your travel details, not buried in the chat that helped plan the trip. Getting packed is only part of leaving home. A useful list should still make sense when someone at the airport changes the plan.
