Trying an AI photo edit? Know which version you're saving.
Imagine removing a distraction from a family photo, then deciding a week later that you liked it better before. The edit was easy. Finding your way back should be easy too. Google Photos' existing Android guide distinguishes two save options: Save applies changes to the original photo; Save as copy creates a separate edited photo without changing the original. Some edits do not offer both options. The guide also says Edit → Revert can undo changes to an edited photo, but cannot undo changes to a photo saved as a copy. That does not mean the untouched original is gone. It means you need to return to that original rather than expect Revert to rebuild it from the copy. Before saving, you can tap and hold the preview to compare it with the original. After saving a copy, I would find the original in the library before deleting anything that looks like a duplicate. These are documented controls and a precaution, not a hands-on test or a new launch. I would like the save screen to say ‘Keep original and make edited copy,’ with both thumbnails shown afterward. Someone trying an AI edit for the first time should not need to learn the app's file behavior by wondering where a person in their photograph went. Does your photo editor make the original easy to find after an AI edit, or leave you comparing nearly identical thumbnails?
