Does your Roomba avoid cables and pet waste while mapping?

A robot learning the room sounds like the gentle part of setting it up. I'd still pick up the phone charger before sending it out. iRobot's existing PrecisionVision guide says the feature is inactive during training or mapping runs on the Roomba j series and Combo 10 Max. It specifically warns that the robot will not actively detect or avoid cables and pet waste in that mode. Its Smart Maps guide repeats the j-series warning, even though a mapping run navigates without cleaning. So before starting that run, check the floor and clear those hazards rather than relying on the avoidance you expect during cleaning. This is a documented exception for those models, not a claim about every robot vacuum or a test I've performed. I'd want that warning beside the button that starts mapping. Someone setting up a new vacuum should not have to discover that ‘learning the house’ changes which obstacles it recognizes. Have you checked whether your robot's setup run has the same protections as its cleaning run?
