Can Spotify stop treating your sleep music as your musical taste?
Eight hours of rain sounds is a long time to spend telling a music service almost nothing about your taste. You wanted to sleep. Spotify's existing support guide offers a useful correction: open the three-dot menu on a playlist or track and choose the option to exclude it from your taste profile. Spotify says this reduces the influence of past and future listens on recommendations and taste summaries. Hiding or snoozing a song does not change that profile. There is a catch with excluding a playlist: playing one of its songs somewhere else, such as Liked Songs, still counts. Exclusion can take up to 48 hours, and Discover Weekly may not change until the following week. I'd start with a dedicated sleep playlist rather than try to repair recommendations by skipping songs every morning. This is a documented option, not a listening test I've run, and excluding a playlist is not a claim that Spotify deletes the listening history. A recommendation system should leave room for ‘I used this’ without insisting on ‘this is who I am.’ Otherwise getting through the night becomes a surprisingly long vote for more rain.
