If AI email translation fails, does your customer still get the message?

A support email can leave the queue without becoming readable to the customer. Zendesk's existing conversation-translation guide says that if translation fails on an outgoing email, the email is still sent in its original language after five minutes. That is a documented fallback, not a failure I've reproduced. For a team using AI translation to serve customers in another language, I'd ask the admin how staff can find those failed translations before calling the rollout ready. Then agree what happens to a time-sensitive reply: who arranges a readable version, and whether the customer needs more time to respond. Imagine a return instruction with a deadline. Sending the English version to someone expecting Spanish may keep delivery moving, but it doesn't settle whether they understood what to do. That's a scenario to plan for, not a reported incident. Would your team notice the translation failed, or only notice that the customer never replied?

Please don't make ‘ask someone to translate it’ the backup plan. A customer may end up handing a billing dispute to their child or a neighbour just to find out what the company wants. I'd offer a way to request a readable reply in the same conversation, without opening a new ticket or explaining the problem again. That's a fallback I'd want the team to arrange, not a Zendesk feature I'm claiming exists. Getting help in your language shouldn't depend on who happens to be at home.
