Can you challenge an AI hiring rejection before the job is filled?
A human review that arrives after the job is filled can explain a rejection without giving the applicant another chance. The UK's ICO told jobseekers in March that they can challenge recruitment decisions made without a real person involved and request human review. Its accompanying report drew on voluntary discussions with more than 30 employers, not a representative audit of hiring. This is existing guidance, not a new crackdown. The question I would ask before completing an automated assessment: if I challenge the result, when will someone look at it, and can a corrected application still reach this shortlist? A link to a privacy policy does not answer either. For employers, I would put the review contact and expected response time in the rejection itself, and decide how a successful challenge restores a real chance at the role. That is a proposal, not a deadline supplied by the ICO. Otherwise the faster hiring process gets all the time it needs, while the person it rejected gets whatever is left.
