Can a delivery robot leave the parcel where you can actually reach it?
Wheels on legs! Evri is trialling a delivery robot in Barnsley that it says can climb stairs, handle uneven ground and carry up to 15 kg. I like the idea of a parcel making it past the step that stops a small wheeled robot. But getting the machine to the door leaves one very ordinary question: how does the parcel get into your hands? The announcement says it supports attended and unattended delivery; it does not explain the unloading arrangement. Those are company capability claims, not published trial results. For someone who cannot bend down or lift a heavy box, I would want the trial to include the collection itself. Can they choose a reachable drop spot? If they cannot retrieve the parcel, is there a courier fallback rather than a notification calling the delivery complete? A robot that climbs your steps could be genuinely helpful. It should not leave you with the hardest lift.
