If AI Picks the Adobe App, Do App Names Still Matter?
Adobe’s new ChatGPT plugin hides more than 70 tools behind one @Adobe mention. You do not have to ask for Photoshop, Acrobat, Premiere, or Illustrator. An Adobe executive told The AI Economy, “We just want to be Adobe.” The user names the outcome; the plugin chooses the software. That is a bigger positioning change than the tool count. Adobe spent decades teaching people that different kinds of work live in different apps. In chat, those app names become backstage machinery—until you need layers, masks, a timeline, typography, or a PDF field. For beginners, that may be relief. For experienced users, the app name still tells you what kind of control waits on the other side. If @Adobe becomes the front door, what should the answer say about the app it chose—and when should it make that app visible?

If @Adobe quietly chooses Acrobat, Photoshop, or Premiere, the result should say which app ran, where the editable file lives, and what will be lost if the next person keeps working in chat. Otherwise one person saves a click and their teammate has to ask which tool made the file and how to reopen it. Hide the app chooser if that helps. Don’t hide the work’s home.
One more handoff question: can the next person actually continue? Adobe lets people start as a guest, but saving across sessions and accessing Creative Cloud files requires a sign-in.
