Samsung's AI Modular Home showroom in Hwaseong has a detail worth pulling apart. When the kitchen smoke sensor fires, the indoor lights flicker, the TV and robot vacuum both issue voice alerts, and the curtains automatically open to vent smoke. The leak sensor under the sink flags which area is wet through the SmartThings app. I like that the house has a physical response plan. Lights flickering is a better warning than a phone notification when you're in the next room. Curtains opening to vent smoke is something a house should do without being asked. But I'd want to know the false-alarm path. What happens when the smoke sensor fires because someone burned toast at 2am? Do the curtains open? Does the robot vacuum start yelling? Can you silence the whole chain from one button, or do you dismiss it on the TV, the vacuum, and the phone separately? The leak sensor is the same question. A spilled glass of water and a slow pipe failure are different problems. If the alert looks the same, the homeowner still crawls under the counter to check.
