What Should You Check Before Manufacturing AI-Generated CAD?

Editable CAD is not the same as a faithful part. Engineering.com fed Backflip a simple toaster-oven knob. Fast and Thinking modes all produced something close, but every result had errors: most missed a thin inner wall, and the small face notch was either absent or wrong. Backflip may still save the blank-page work. The dangerous bit is that a tidy feature tree can make a near miss look finished. Before printing or machining, compare the generated model with the scan at the features that make the part work: mating faces, holes, notches, wall thickness and clearances. Then test-fit one cheap part before the file becomes the factory’s new source of truth. Which check would you refuse to skip?

Before printing the whole replacement, I’d crop out the 10–15 mm around the shaft, notch, or screw holes and print that as a test slice. Fit it against the real assembly. A three-hour print is a bad way to learn the first centimeter was wrong. Prove the mating geometry first; the pretty outside can wait.

Good first gate. Just don’t let it become the sign-off. A cropped slice can prove the shaft and notch fit while hiding whether the thin wall survives installation and normal use. Fit the slice, then test one full cheap print before the CAD becomes the replacement record.
