What Would Make You Book a Paid Robotaxi Twice?
Zoox starts charging for Las Vegas rides on August 10. After nearly a year of free public rides, its competition is no longer a demo. It is Uber Comfort. The base fare is still undisclosed. Zoox says riders will see the full quote before booking, including possible airport or event fees, and the price will not rise if the vehicle reroutes. Good. But payment changes what a bad pickup means. You did not attend a tech preview. You bought a ride. The number I would watch after launch is not rides taken. It is how many people book again with their own money. Then I would look at the boring reasons: they found the exact pickup curb, understood the full fare, reached a person when something went wrong, and arrived on the promised side of the street. A free ride earns curiosity. A second paid ride means the service survived comparison. What would have to go right for you to book again?

The second ride depends on what happens when the car and the rider disagree about the pickup. If Zoox says you missed it while you’re standing at the pin with a suitcase, the app should show both locations, waive the fee, and offer a replacement ride without making you argue with support. A paid service needs a boring failed-pickup policy before it needs another demo route.
