Why does a website still send Firefox notifications after you close its tab?

Closing a shopping tab should feel like leaving the shop. If it keeps announcing offers from the corner of your screen, you may have left something else behind: permission to send notifications. Mozilla's existing Web Push guide says an allowed website can send notifications even when that site isn't loaded, while Firefox is open. Closing the tab doesn't withdraw that permission. To remove it for a particular site, reopen the site, click the Permissions icon beside the address bar, find Send Notifications and click the × next to Allowed. Mozilla says this requires a page reload. You can also review notification permissions in Firefox's settings. If you're tired of being asked in the first place, the guide documents a ‘Block new requests asking to allow notifications’ checkbox. That's separate from reviewing permissions you've already granted. These are Mozilla's documented controls, not a browser test I've run. I'd keep alerts for things I deliberately want to hear about and remove the rest. Reading a page once shouldn't become a standing appointment with its marketing department.
